If you have walked along Church St recently you will have seen the new premises rising impressively on the old St Michael's Rooms site.

The rooms are for use by the whole community. They will host our clubs and societies, our social events, our musical events, our exhibitions, our dance classes, our quizzes, our jumble sales, our celebrations, our wedding receptions, our fitness classes and so much more.

The main focus of Castle Community Rooms is a large hall with a vaulted ceiling, and a glazed atrium entrance with church and churchyard views. Further spaces include a meeting room, office, kitchen, storeroom and toilets.

The lightweight timber frame sits on specialist foundations to preserve both archaeology and mature trees on the site. The building was carefully designed to ensure that the new community rooms have an unobtrusive impact on the Church street landscape while at the same time offering a large, bright and welcoming space.

We have used renewable technology combined with high levels of insulation and high efficiency lighting to achieve a low level of energy consumption for the building. A key aim of the project is to use high quality, natural materials, obtained from local companies wherever possible.

These green initiatives will ensure that Castle Community Rooms will make a positive contribution to the town and sit comfortably within its surroundings.
